Misión Timoteo is a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Bolivia, officially recognized by the Bolivian government. It was founded in 1992 by Dutch missionaries Dick and Therèse Altena. The foundation is dedicated to caring for disadvantaged children, including those living in prison with their parents, street children (many struggling with addiction), children abandoned by their parents, and orphans.
In the city of Santa Cruz, Misión Timoteo operates a children’s home, a daycare center, a preschool, and a cafeteria that generates income and provides young people with work experience. In the village of Portachuelo, the foundation runs a therapeutic center that includes a home for teenagers and a farm. More detailed information can be found under ‘What we do’.
The foundation also provides transportation for children attending school through the Redil Kids Bus, purchased with the support of the Rotary Club Bennekom.
The vision of Misión Timoteo is to offer children and young people the opportunity to develop into valuable members of society, rooted in love for one’s fellow human beings—a love that comes from God the Father. The foundation’s work is based on the saving and liberating work of Jesus Christ. Its goal goes beyond imparting spiritual values; it aims to express those values practically in everyday life.
